Olympic Legacy Lives On

Following on from the incredible success at the London 2012 Olympics, here at Preston Park we have made a pledge to involve all of our children in as many different sports and Olympic sports as possible. Not only has the school made this Olympic pledge, but each individual child from Year 1 to Year 6, have made their own pledges to become fitter, healthier and more active.

To Launch our Olympic Legacy we invited Andrew Osagie, Britain's 800m champion, to the school to motivate and inspire the children.

Since Andrew's visit children have been joining and participating in lunch time sports clubs and after school clubs such as rugby, athletics, dodgeball, multi-sports, basketbal and boxing.

Continuing the Olympic spirit our next guest was Chris Tomlinson, current British indoor and outdoor long jump record holder and word silver medalist. Chris worked with the children teaching them the key skills for the long and triple jump. This is in preparation for the long jump pit to be installed, in the school, by the end of the year.

Our final Olympic athlete for this school year was Bronze medal winning gymnast Kristian Thomas. He dazzled the children with his display of strength, agility and flexibility. Kristian spoke to the children about this life as an athlete, journey to the Olympics, winning an Olympic medal and his future aspirations. Kristian also lead three workshops with the children and taught them some really impressive gymnastic skills.
